You won't believe what happened with Pops’ World Famous Sweet Reaper Chilli Crisps!
On Twitter, (now X), Ross (one of our best supporters) challenged us to make a chilli crisp with the Carolina Reaper - The Hottest Chilli in the world!
We replied by saying if the challenge got 500 retweets, we would do it. Within 24 hours, the challenge had been met and so we set Pops to work.
After much trial and error, the maestro Mr Singh had done it again. Somehow he had created a delicious crisp which was sweet, tangy, salty and crazy hot because of the reaper.
We decided to pre-sell 1000 bags and once the orders were in, we got production underway.
But then, disaster struck.
In the heat of the moment (pun intended), Pops messed up the recipe.
Instead of the usual scorching hot crisps, he made them 25 times hotter because he was not wearing his glasses - OH NO!
Imagine that—crisps hot enough to set off a smoke alarm from just opening the bag. We ran out of ingredients and had over 700 orders still to make.
Cue the panic.
We sent out a heartfelt apology to our customers, bracing for the worst telling them we would either refund or they could wait until we made the new batch with the correct recipe.
But then, the plot twist of the century: our customers went absolutely bonkers.
They demanded the supercharged crisps! "No, send us the new ones. The ones which are 25x hotter than they should be!" they said.
We tried to warn them, "These are like lava in crisp form, we can't do this to you!" But they insisted.
So, we shipped out the turbo-charged crisps. And guess what? They LOVED them! Sure, it blew their heads off, but apparently, that was part of the fun.
Before we knew it, everyone was ordering these accidental inferno crisps. Social media exploded with reaction videos. People were crying, gasping, turning red, and still reaching for more. It was dangerously hilarious!
We had to keep up with the demand, so we ordered more ingredients and started making the crisps the "wrong" way on purpose. And thus, the Sweet Reapers were reborn!
Turns out, sometimes a little mistake can set your business on fire—literally and figuratively!
